This was my second time illustrating a cover for Cal's work! Was wonderful to work directly with her as always: including the mimic was her idea, and I think it brings such whimsy to this composition.
Included below are examples of my concept sketching for the protagonist Mara, alongside her mage-inspired school uniform, as well as my thumbnailing process for the cover composition.
